Why We Need The 10 Commandments

The world is suffering a moral crisis of epic dimensions. Violence, crime and lawlessness are ‘out of hand’. Street crime has reached unacceptable levels along with drug and alcohol dependency.

Apparently religious activities have little or no effect in reducing the moral crisis as side by side with the awful statistics people are interested in religion. The reason it would seem is the ‘not quite Christian’ fraction. These are the people who claim to believe, but do not have strong convictions. The major challenge for the churches is to change these people into mature Christians.

A starting point would be education. Many of these people and children are “spiritually illiterate”. Many would not be able to articulate the significant of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Whilst most homes can boast a Bible they do not know how to bring it into their lives. Only a few would be able to name the four gospels or the Ten Commandments.

The Ten Commandments are crucial to discuss in our churches and Sunday school. The first two verses of Exodus 20 proclaim who gave the Commandments and why. The first few commandments relate to the exclusive worship of God. The rest relate to society and how we should conduct ourselves.

The response to today’s moral crisis is for Christians to uphold the principles of the Ten Commandments. They should be applied to our lives and they need to be taught in churches and Sunday school.
